Windows 11 hasn't had the smoothest of launches. Ever since the release, all patch Tuesday has been packed with a long heel of bug fixes, tweaks and updates. Ars Technica took the time to read through a (precise polysyllabic) changelog for a build that will be released into the trailer channel and found this little chip:

We changed the block out color to blue when a device stops functioning operating theatre a stop error occurs as in late versions of Windows.

Anyone that has washed-out time with a PC knows the Blue Screen of Death feeling all too substantially. Something went very wrong! Nigh gamers have likely toughened BSOD's thanks to a problem with a twist number one wood, an aggressive overclock or faulty hardware.

For some conclude, Microsoft chose to change the traditional bluish screen to a blacken screen in Windows 11. Apparently, it never said why it ready-made the variety, but the reasoning is likely American Samoa simple as introducing some other way to make Windows 11 feel 'new' along with the rest of the UI overhaul. Perhaps just as puzzling is wherefore it's chosen to revert back to the blue sieve. Did users give feedback to Microsoft request for the reversion? 'Hey Microsoft, I want my crashes dingy!' Blue sieve nostalgia is a matter plain.

The Blue Screen of Expiry is a part of the Windows experience. Its origins return as far as Windows 1.0. It has evolved over the years with the add-on of debugging and QR codes that can help users determine the cause of a trouble. Later Windows versions added a sad face emoticon, as if the intuitive feeling of appall and dread when your screen flashes to that infernal blue wasn't enough.

If you harbour't ready-made the move to Windows 11, check out our look back. Though its far from perfect, Microsoft is making information technology better. Not that you want to see information technology, but Windows Update will include the 'new' blue screen in a public release in the near future, presumptive within weeks.

Chris Szewczyk

Chris' gaming experiences come back to the mid-nineties when he conned his parents into purchasing an 'informative PC' that was conveniently overpowered to gambol Doom and Tie Fighter. He matured a love of extreme overclocking that destroyed his nest egg despite the cheaper ironware on go via his business at a PC shop. To afford to a greater extent LN2 he began moonlighting as a reviewer for VR-Zone before jumping the fence to work for MSI Australia. Since then, he's gone hindmost to journalism, enthusiastically reviewing the latest and sterling components for Personal computer & Tech Authority, PC Powerplay and presently Australian Physical Computer magazine and PC Gamer. Chris still puts far too many hours into Borderlands 3, always striving to become a more expeditious killer.
